On 27th April 2025, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa hosted Verde Vogue '25, a vibrant fashion competition dedicated to promoting sustainable creativity. The event celebrated the art of upcycling, as participants unveiled fashion pieces crafted entirely from repurposed and recycled materials. It offered a bold and purposeful reimagining of style with meaning.
From fabric scraps to everyday discarded items, competitors transformed waste into striking fashion statements with each ensemble echoing a message of environmental responsibility. Verde Vogue '25 was more than just a runway show. It served as a powerful platform for conscious design sparking conversations around eco-friendly practices and showing how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. The event’s success reflected the unity, creativity and forward-thinking spirit of the Leo movement.
Holi Fest ‘25 brightened the day with a burst of colour, laughter and togetherness as lively energy filled the grounds of Bodhiraja Vidyalaya, Piliyandala. Proudly organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with Leo Club of Piliyandala, the event welcomed individuals from all walks of life to celebrate unity and joy through the vibrant spirit of Holi. The festivities began at 3.00 p.m. and created a magical space where memories were made, friendships were strengthened and the cultural essence of the festival shone brightly.
The celebration was more than just an occasion of colour and fun and it also reflected the strong sense of community, youth leadership and shared happiness. We look forward to creating even more joyful moments in the years to come.
Project Miracle Steps was held on the 29th of March 2025 at Independence Square in Colombo from 6.30 AM onwards. It was organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa together with Lions Club of Dehiwala North aiming at raising awareness about childhood cancer. With the leadership of Director Kawya Perera, Miracle Steps became more than just a run or walk.
With the amazing support of our participants, sponsors and partners, we were able to donate 100% of the money raised to Apeksha Hospital to help with the treatment and care of children with cancer. The donation was officially made on the 9th of April 2025.
The event had a huge turn out including university and school students, members of the Air Force, the general public and even people from other countries. It was a beautiful example of people coming together, no matter their age or background.
We are truly thankful to Lions Club of Dehiwala North for helping us. At the same time, Lions Club and Leo Club of Guwahati South also organized a similar event, showing their support from another part of the world and helping our movement grow even bigger. A big thank you to our kind sponsors, whose support helped make this event possible.
As we remember the success of Miracle Steps, let’s also look to the future. Together, we have shown that when people come together with love and purpose miracles can truly happen.

Project Nourish Nations is an international joint project collaboratively organized by Leo Club of G.N. Khalsa College, Leo Club Mohali Smiling, Leo Club of Guwahati South and Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. The project promotes compassion, unity and collective action across borders with the shared mission of providing nourishing meals to those in need. Leo Club of University of Moratuwa carried out its contribution to the project on the 29th of March 2025 at Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo. With the active participation of Leos and prospects, the club successfully distributed pre-packed meals to individuals in need offering support and kindness to the community. Nourish Nations is beyond merely a food distribution project. It exemplifies the Leo movement's values of service and empathy. The involvement of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa demonstrates the club's ongoing commitment to making a real difference in the lives of individuals experiencing food insecurity.
Phoenix Live in Concert was successfully held for the second time on the 26th of March this year. Beyond just a music show, it is a mission to help a mother in need. This time we came together to help Mahima Rajapaksha’s mother’s kidney operation, which costs 7 million rupees.
The show was held at Sumanadasa Courtyard. The event featured amazing performances by Yaka Crew Band, Wasthi, Sanka, Dilu Beats, Mihiran, Adithya, Chanuka Mora, Dinesh and Kaizer. Ramod with Cool Steps is the dancing crew that made the show more energetic with their amazing dance moves. Thisanka Gamage is the compere who did an amazing job with his compering skills.
The show was a great success thanks to the efforts of an amazing organizing committee and the support of all Leos.
“A woman’s health is a nation’s wealth.” With this belief at its heart, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa and Leo Club of Millaniya successfully organized “Healthy Her”, a free health camp exclusively for women, on 8th March 2025 from 8.00 AM to 3.00 PM at Gothami Junior School, Gampaha. This meaningful initiative was held in collaboration with Sethma Pvt. Hospital - Gampaha, commemorating International Women’s Day 2025.
Despite making up 76% of the global health and care workforce, women worldwide still face significant barriers in accessing healthcare. “Healthy Her” aimed to address this gap by providing comprehensive health screenings, expert medical guidance, health awareness and support all tailored exclusively for women.
As Michelle Obama wisely said, “Communities and countries and ultimately the world are only as strong as the health of their women.” True to these words, the project was dedicated to empowering women by investing in their health, ensuring they are not misunderstood, mistreated or misdiagnosed.

තර්ක - මහේෂ් අබේවික්‍රම අනුස්මරණ විවාද තරගාවලිය 2025 අවසාන මහා තරගය සහ එයට සමගාමීව පැවැත්වූ කථික තරගාවලිය පසුගිය මාර්තු 08 දිනය පුරා මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය පරිශ්‍රයේදී සාර්ථකව පැවැත්විණි.
පෙර වර් ෂයේ මෙන්ම මෙවරත් හෙළකුරු සමඅනුග්‍රහයෙන් පැවැත්වූ මෙම තරගාවලිය පසුගිය දෙසැම්බර් මස සිට මාර්තු දක්වා මාස හතරක කාලයක් පුරා තරගවට කිහිපයක් ඔස්සෙ පැවැත්වුණි. මෙම තරගාවලියේ මූලික වට තරගයන් අන්තර්ජාලය ඔස්සෙ පවත්වන ලදී. ශ්‍රේණි වශයෙන් පැවති කථික තරගාවලියට පාසල් සිසුන් පන්සිය පනහකට අධික ප්‍රමාණයක් ලියාපදිංචි විය.
විවාද තරගාවලියේ මූලික තරගයන් සඳහා පාසල් විවාද කණ්ඩායම් හැත්තෑවක් ලියාපදිංචි වූ අතර එයින් කණ්ඩායම් අටක් අර්ධ අවසන් පූර්ව වටයට සුදුසුකම් ලබන ලදී. එම කණ්ඩායම් අට අතරින් කණ්ඩායම් හතරක් අවසන් පූර්ව වටයේ තරග කල අතර අවසාන මහා තරගය සදහා කොළඹ ලුම්බිණි විද්‍යාලය සහ කොළඹ නාලන්දා විද්‍යාලයන්හි විවාද කණ්ඩායම් සුදුසුකම් ලබා ගත්හ. එහිදී කොළඹ ලුම්බිණි විද්‍යාලයීය විවාද කණ්ඩායම ශූරතාවයද කොළඹ නාලන්දා විද්‍යාලයීය විවාද කණ්ඩායම අනුශූරතාවයද දිනාගන්නා ලදී.
තරගාවලියට සමගාමීව පැවැත්වූ මනාප මගින් ජනප්‍රියතම විවාද කණ්ඩායම තෝරාගන්නා අදියරේදී කුරුණෑගල මලියදේව විද්‍යාලයීය විවාද කණ්ඩායම ජනප්‍රියතම විවාද කණ්ඩායම ලෙස අබිසෙස් ලබන ලදී.
මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝවරුන්ගේ සකල කලාවේ අතික්‍රමණය ‘ලියෝ පැදුර 2025’ පසුගිය මාර්තු මස දෙවන ඉරු දින විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය පරිශ්‍රයේ දී අති සාර්ථකව පවත්වන ලදී.
ඒ සඳහා මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජයේ සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන්, විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය සිසුන් මෙන්ම අනෙකුත් ලියෝ සමාජ කිහිපයකම ලියෝවරුන් සහභාගී වූ අතර එහිදී ඔවුන්ට ද ගායනයෙන් නර්තනයෙන් එම සන්ධ්‍යාව වර්ණවත් කරන්නට අවස්ථාව උදා විය. වත්මන් පරපුරේ ප්‍රසිද්ධ ගායකයෙකු වන ධ්‍යාන් හේවගේ ද මෙම සංගීත සන්ධ්‍යාව සඳහා එක්වූ අතර ඔහුගේ සුමිහිරි ගායනයකින් 2025 ලියෝ පැදුර තවත් උත්කර්ෂවත් විය.

Celestia '25 was a graceful candlelight dinner event that brought a touch of elegance and warmth to everyone who attended. With soft candlelight illuminating the evening, the atmosphere was intimate and enchanting offering guests a serene escape from the ordinary. The setting was beautifully curated, combining gentle lighting, elegant decor and carefully selected music to create a memorable night filled with charm and celebration. What made Celestia truly special was its celebration of cultural diversity, guests arrived dressed in beautiful cultural attire and the dinner featured a variety of traditional foods representing different communities.
The event saw the participation of many Leos from University of Moratuwa along with Leos representing various clubs from the Leo Multiple District. It served as a vibrant cultural gathering, where individuals came together to appreciate the richness of different traditions. From attire to cuisine, Celestia honoured diversity and unity creating a space that was both festive and meaningful. The event stood out not just for its elegance but for the strong sense of togetherness and cultural pride it inspired among everyone present.

සමාජ සත්කාර මෙහෙවරෙහි නවමු මංපෙත් සොයායන මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජයේ පුරෝගාමී ගමන් මඟෙහි තවත් එක් පියවරක් පසුගියදා සනිටුහන් විය. නව ලොවෙහි පෙරළිකාර තාක්ෂණයක් වන ‘VR තාක්ෂණය’ ඵලදායීව යොදා ගනිමින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද ‘VR වන්දනා’ ව්‍යාපෘතිය පසුගිය ජනවාරි මස විසිහතර වන දින හොරණ වැඩිහිටි නිවාසයේදී ඉතා සාර්ථකව අවසන් කෙරුණි.
ශාරීරික හා භෞතික සීමා පසෙකලමින් සැදෑ සමය ගතකරන අපේම වැඩිහිටියන්ට VR තාක්ෂණය ඔස්සේ දුරස්ථව පිහිටි විවිධ සිද්ධස්ථාන වැදපුදා ගැනීමට අවස්ථාව සලසා දීම මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ මූලික අරමුණ විය. වැඩිහිටියන්ගේ සිත් සතුටු කරමින් ඔවුන්ගේ මුවගට සිනහවක් ගෙන එනු පිණිස තේ පැන් සංග්‍රහක් සමඟ සංගීතමය වැඩසටහනක්ද ව්‍යාපෘතිය අතරවාරයේදී පැවැත්වුණි.
ව්‍යාපෘතිය සාර්ථකව සංවිධානය කිරීම උදෙසා සහයෝගය ලබා දුන් මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජයේ සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් ඇතුළු සියළුම දෙනාට අපගේ ස්තූතිය පුදකර සිටිමු. එමෙන්ම ව්‍යාපෘතිය සඳහා අවශ්‍ය VR Box කට්ටල සපයමින් නිල තාක්ෂණික අනුග්‍රහය දැක්වූ Dialog - UoM Research Lab ආයතනයට ද අපගේ ගෞරවාන්විත ස්තූතිය පුදකරමු.
"Zero to Hero" was a Kabaddi workshop hosted by the Kabaddi Team of the University of Moratuwa in collaboration with Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. This workshop offered a unique chance for students to enhance their skills in the sport. Targeted at both beginners and those wishing to improve their techniques, it aimed to promote an interest in kabaddi at the university and boost participation levels.
Held at the
university’s new gymnasium, the event included practical training sessions
guided by skilled coaches. Participants, which comprised university students,
members of the Kabaddi Team and Leos, took part in rigorous practice that
encompassed basic techniques, defensive tactics and game strategies. The
organized sessions aided students in deepening their comprehension of the sport
while honing their agility, strength and cooperative skills.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women making early detection vital in saving lives. Recognizing this, Leo Club of Raththanapitiya and Leo Club of University of Moratuwa jointly organized “FightOn” which is a Breast Cancer Awareness Program & leaflet Distribution Campaign on February 6th, 2025 at Korathota Sri Somananda Vidyalaya, Kaduwela. The project aimed to educate mothers and students about breast cancer symptoms, self-examination techniques and the importance of early detection. The awareness session was carried out as an interactive awareness session with the help of MOH Kaduwela medical professionals. Mrs.H.A.S.P Rodrigo, public health nursing officer of MOH Kaduwela and DR. Niroshan Silva, medical officer of health were the resource persons for the session. Mrs. Rodrigo emphasized that the Korathota area records a high number of breast cancer cases underscoring the need for increased awareness. The event featured demonstrations on self-examinations, Q&A discussions and the distribution of educational leaflets. The project successfully reached about 70 beneficiaries. The project received positive feedback from participants reinforcing the importance of community-based health education. By raising awareness and encouraging proactive health measures, FightOn made a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer.
