Leap Phase 2

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

LEAP Phase 2, The Leadership Camp took place at H/Deniya Pingama Kanishta Vidyalaya. It lasted for 2 days and involved 16 Leos along with approximately 60 school students. Teachers also joined us and assisted throughout including food and accommodation.

On the first day we divided the students into groups and engaged in various games designed to teach and enhance their leadership skills. At the end of the day, each group prepared and performed a drama followed by a competition to select the best performance. The evening concluded with a joyful bonfire where everyone sang and danced together.

The next morning started with an exciting workout to wake up the students and get them ready for the day. Then we had a fun treasure hunt where everyone worked together to solve puzzles and find hidden treasures. Later, all student groups participated in a cooking show. At the end of the two-day program we had a special ceremony to give awards to students who did great. The teachers and students were very happy and thankful. Everyone felt that the camp was really good and valuable. This marked the end of LEAP Phase 2 but the memories and lessons will stay with us for a long time.

Renovate '24: Repairing a bus stop

On 15th January 2024, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa launched the project “Renovate’24” to restore a dilapidated bus stop at Hingurupaththala Junction, Matara. This initiative, driven by our dedicated club members as volunteers, aimed to increase the community's quality of life.

The project involved not only painting the bus stop but also carrying out essential repairs. That impact was immediate and valuable. Our members have repaired the place Then, that bus stop provides shelter and uplifts the area's aesthetic appeal. This transformation shows our commitment and dedication to improving public spaces.

The significance of this project extends beyond the physical improvements. It demonstrates the power of collective action and volunteerism in creating positive change. We have shown that even small acts can significantly impact society by coming together.

The revitalised bus stop now stands as a symbol of hope and progress, reminding us of the importance of investing in our communities. Leo Club of University of Moratuwa is proud to have undertaken this project and we are committed to continuing our efforts to serve society.

Hearts Beat

The project 'Hearts Beat’ was organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa targeting to make the society aware of Dialog star points. Also the aim of this project was to help construct a new facility in Lady Ridgeway Hospital.

In the first two weeks of December, UoMLeos were connected with the Little Hearts fund which collaboratively works with Lady Ridgeway Hospital and Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe helped a lot to make this project a success. Members of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa visited tuition classes from around different cities of the country to make them aware about Dialog star points and to collect them. Most of the teachers supported us in making this project more successful. We covered nine districts and about 100,000 students from Galle, Gampaha, Matara, Jaffna, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kurunegala and Colombo.

And also we were able to reach up to more than 300 people in social groups. In addition, in the final week of December, we shared a small video clip on how to donate points to the ‘Little Hearts’ fund. With all of our efforts the project ‘Hearts Beat’ became a great success.
