Pheonix

 Phoenix was one of the most significant musical events held at University of Moratuwa which was organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. It took place on 27th of March at the Sumanadasa Courtyard, University of Moratuwa. This show aimed to raise funds for the mother's operation of one of our university students, Dinil Nawotunna.

The lineup featured renowned artists such as Lahiru Perera, Ridma Weerawardana, Supun Perera, Sarith Surith, Charuka Mora, Mihiran and Hana Shafa, all backed by the talented Yaka crew band. On the day of the event, 90% of the tickets were sold and the university premises were buzzed with enthusiastic crowds eager to witness the spectacle.

The show kicked off around 7.30 p.m. with Charuka Mora's electrifying performance which was supported by the Yaka crew band, filling the university grounds with pulsating beats. Subsequently Lahiru and the other artists graced the stage, captivating the entire crowd with their performances. The band along with all the artists, delivered an unforgettable show culminating in great success.

The organization of this grand event required dedicated efforts from all the Leo club members who worked tirelessly to ensure its success. By the end of the event, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa had managed to raise a significant sum of money. This event stands as one of the Leo club's most remarkable achievements, showcasing their commitment to making a positive impact in their community.











Leap phase 3



The third and the final phase of the LEAP 23/24 leadership program was successfully completed. This two-day leadership program took place on 16th and 17th of March at Welanhinna Vidyalaya, Welanhinna, Haputale.

The first day of the LEAP program commenced with a warm introduction and motivational speech by the principal of Welanhinna Vidyalaya. As the initial step, Leos organized the students into several groups and engaged them in various specially designed games aimed at teaching and enhancing leadership skills. Activities such as Name Writing, Traffic Jam, Barrier Walk and Number Touching were among the games conducted for the students. After the lunch break, we did some fun activities with the students followed by an enjoyable evening highlighted by a bonfire and a drama competition.

The following day commenced with a physical training session aimed at improving the students' physical fitness. Subsequently, students participated enthusiastically in a treasure-hunting game where they eagerly searched for clues to uncover hidden treasures. Later the students showcased their cooking skills in a noodle cooking competition. At the end of the two-day program, a special ceremony was held to recognize and award students who excelled in the leadership activities. 

Both teachers and students expressed their happiness and gratitude, acknowledging the positive impact of the camp on their personal development. 

With that UoMLeos successfully completed all three phases of this outstanding leadership program.

 මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කළ පාට හීන ව්‍යාපෘතිය මාර්තු මස පහළොස්වන දින පානදුර අරුණ ළමා නිවාසයේ දී පැවැත්විය. මෙය විශේෂ අවශ්‍යතා සහිත දරුවන්ගේ චිත්‍ර ඇඳීමේ හැකියාව වර්ධනය කිරීමේ අරමුණින් සිදුකරනු ලැබීය. 


අප මෙහිදී දරුවන් සඳහා චිත්‍ර ඇඳීමට අවශ්‍යය වන පාටකූරු, පාට පැන්සල්, පින්සල් සහ තීන්ත වැනි ද්‍රව්‍ය ලබාදෙන ලදී. එදින අපිද ඔවුන් සමඟ එකතු වී චිත්‍ර පහළවකට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් ඇඳීමට හැකි විය. එදින සවස් වරුව දරුවන් සමග විනෝද බර කාලයක් ගත කිරීමට ද ලියෝවරුන් අමතක කළේ නැත. තවද මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය හරහා මෙසේ දරුවන් විසින් අඳින ලද චිත්‍ර විකිණීමට ඉඩ ප්‍රස්ථාර සකසාදී ඔවුන්ගේ අනාගතය වෙනුවෙන් යම් පිළියමක් යෙදීමටද ලියෝ අපිට හැකිවිය.

 මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සෑම ලියෝ වර්ෂයක් පාසාම සංවිධානය කරනු ලබන ලියෝ පැදුර මෙවරද වසර 4ක දීර්ඝ නිහැඬියාවකින් පසු අති උත්කර්ෂවත් අයුරින්  පැවැත්විනි.  විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ශාස්ත්‍රීය සංගීත අංශයේ සහයද ඇතිව අපගේම ලියෝවරුන්ගේ සංගීත ස්වරයන් එදින වා තලයට මුසුවිය. මාර්තු මස 12 වන දින මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය වල කැන්ටීන් එළිමහන් පරිශ්‍රයේදී නැටුම්, ගැයුම් ආදියෙන් හැඩ වූ විචිත්‍රවත් රාත්‍රියක් සනිටුවන් කිරීමට ලියෝවරුන්ට සහ ශාස්ත්‍රීය සංගීත අංශයේ අප සහෝදර සහෝදරියන් හට හැකිවිය. 









Den of Kings phase III

Den of Kings - Phase III, an inter-school chess tournament organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa took place on 9th of March at Kanishta Vidyalaya, Piliyandala. The chess tournament comprised 6 rounds under guidance of recourse persons. Students were highly engaged and showed significant enthusiasm throughout the event. Winners were awarded with medals and certificates, while all participants received certificates of participation.

දිරිය යුවති

 මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලැබූ දිරිය යුවති ව්‍යාපෘතිය දින දෙකක් පුරාවට කාන්තාවන් මූලික කරගනිමින් සිදුකරනු ලැබුණි. මෙහිදී පළමු දිනයේදී ආයුර්වේද වෙදදුරන්ගේ සහභාගිත්වයෙන්  සායනයක් පැවැත්වීමට කටයුතු කළ අතර පියයුරු පිළිකා රෝගය සම්බන්ධව දැනුවත්  කිරිමේ වැඩසටහනක් හා සායනයක් ද අප ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලැබිණි. ඊට අමතරව ව්‍යවසායකත්ව දිරිගැන්වීමේ වැඩසටහනක් සහ කෙටි මැහුම් පාඨමාලවක් හා අභිප්‍රේරණ සැසියක්ද සංවිධානය කරන ලදි. හේමාස් ආයතනයේ අනුග්‍රාහකත්වයෙන්  සනීපාරක්සක තුවා ලබා දීමත් මෙම වැඩසටහනේදි සිදු කරන ලදි.

දෙවනි දිනයේදි ව්‍යාපෘතිය කටුපොත්ත කනිෂ්ඨ විද්‍යාලයේදී පැවැත්වීමට කටයුතු කළ අතර සනීපරක්ශාව පිළිබඳ දැනුවත් කිරිමේ හා කාන්තා පිරිමි සමානත්මතාව පිළිබඳ දැනුවත් කිරිමේ වැඩසටහනක්ද සිදුකරන ලදි.

පාසලේ 6-11 ශ්‍රේණි වල ළමුන් මේ සඳහා සහභාගි වු අතර පැමිණ සිටි ගැහැණු ළමුන් වෙනුවෙන්   සනිපාරක්ශක තුවා හා 25% වට්ටම් සහිත කූපන් පත් ලබා දීමට කටයුතු කරන ලදි.

දිරිය කතුන් වෙනුවෙන් දියත් කරන ලද දිරිය යුවති ව්‍යාපෘතිය මෙලෙස සාර්ථකව නිම කිරීමට මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජයේ අපට හැකිවිය.









ImagineX - Where Dreams Become Innovations

 ImagineX was an innovative workshop series designed for school students to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. This was organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa to create a mindset among students to utilize modern technologies and enhance their imagination and innovation skills to create new solutions. The workshop series happened via Zoom and lasted for four sessions starting from February 1st.

The initial session delved into programming, laying the foundation for students to understand coding principles and computational thinking. Then, they explored robotics where they learned about machines and how they work. The third session was all about the Internet of Things (IoT) which is about how everyday objects can be connected to the internet. Lastly, students learned about entrepreneurship which is a session about how to turn your innovative ideas into successful ventures.

 At the end of the workshop series students got to participate in ‘Ideathon’ where they got to share their creative ideas through video submissions. The workshop series not only provided a thorough understanding of these topics but also offered a gateway for students to expand their knowledge and promote entrepreneurship.




අග්නි රෑ

 මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද “අග්නි රෑ” නවම් මස 29 වන දින මොරටු විශ්වවිද්‍යාලීය ලගාන් පරිශ්‍රයේදී පැවැත්විනි. එහිදී පහතරට කලාවේ සන්නි පන්දම්,කෙණ්ඩි, සළු පාලියන් මෙන්ම ගිනි සිසිල,අණබෙර නොන්චි ආදී අංගයන් නව්‍ය මුහුණුවරකින් යුතුව විශාල ප්‍රේක්ශක ප්‍රතිචාරයන් මධ්‍යයේ  ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී. දිස්ත්‍රික් ලියෝ සමාජයේ සාමජිකයින් ඇතුළු විශාල පිරිසකගෙන් ලගාන් පරිශ්‍ර්‍ය පිරී ඉතිරී ගියේය. අතිශය ප්‍රථම වරට මෙවන් අත්දැකීමක් විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයට ලබා දීමට අප ලියෝ සමාජයට හැකිවිය.



EpicWrite

 EpicWrite was a collaborative initiative aimed at empowering Leo clubs within our district to embrace the power of newsletters for effective communication. With a focus on new and existing clubs without newsletters, our project sought to simplify the process of newsletter creation, highlight its importance and benefits and provide guidance and support every step of the way to launch their club newsletter.

The first phase of EpicWrite took place on February 11th, conducted via Zoom, where participants were introduced to the concept of an editorial panel and its importance in club operations. The workshop provided good understanding about the responsibilities of an editorial panel and the advantages of establishing one within a club.


In the latter part of the session, attendees gained invaluable insights into newsletter creation, including the benefits of publishing one, article writing techniques, editing skills and the comprehensive process of planning and executing a newsletter.

Through the dedication of our internal members as resource persons, we fostered a culture of learning and sharing, ensuring that every club, regardless of size had the opportunity to amplify their voice and impact within the Leo community.








Sparking Hopes

 Sparking Hopes is a special project organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. The project aimed to promote energy conservation and was conducted at WP/GM Mandawala Maha Vidyalaya on 11th of February. Although the school had access to power, the halls lacked electricity due to inadequate wiring. 

Initially we conducted a science education session at the school. Then we selected about 50 students who were interested in electrical work and provided a career guidance and awareness program led by Mr. Indika Kalubovila. This program provided a basic knowledge of wiring through practical sessions. Mr. Indika also joined with the students to wire the halls letting them to experience it to the fullest.

Furthermore, the club donated wiring equipment worth Rs. 200,000.00 to the school. We collected these items by approaching hardware shops who generously contributed when presented with our list. This project not only taught students valuable skills but also provided an essential electricity supply to the school making a significant impact.





ප්‍රාණ අදියර 2

 තලංගම දකුණ සිංහ සමාජය සහ මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලබන ලේ දන් දීමේ ව්‍යාපෘතිය ප්‍රාණ - දෙවන අදියර පෙබරවාරි මස 2වන දින  මොරටුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේදී පැවැත්විණි. ඒ සඳහා මහරගම පිළිකා රෝහලේ වෛද්‍යවරු හා හෙද හෙදියන් විසින් දායකයින්ව සම්පූර්ණ පරීක්ෂණයකට ලක් කීරීමෙන් අනතුරුව දායකයන් සියයකට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයකගේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් ලේ පරිත්‍යාග කිරීම සිදුවිය. එහිදී එම වෛද්‍යවරු හා හෙද හෙදියන් විසින් මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය පැසසුමට ලක් කරන ලදී.

GraphixScape

 GraphixScape, a flyer design workshop organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa, took place via Zoom in four sessions. In the first session, participants learned to create attractive flyers using Canva. The second session focused on designing flyers with Photoshop, while the third taught making logos with the same tool. The final session introduced 3D modeling using the Blender toolkit. Through this workshop series, students gained hands-on experience in flyer and logo design. Their enthusiastic participation made the workshop a success. 

GraphixScape was aimed at unlocking creativity and teaching essential design skills. Participants were able to explore layout principles, visual elements and advanced tools through this workshop. The workshop also emphasized practical learning and personal guidance. It served as a platform for students to enhance their graphic design abilities. 

GraphixScape showcased our dedication to developing talent and encouraging creativity


ප්‍රාණ අදියර -1

රිජ්වේ ආර්යා ළමා රෝහලේ පුංචි මල් කැකුළු වලට සහයක් වනු රිසින්, රෝහලට අවශ්‍ය හිඟ ඖෂධ පරිත්‍යාග කිරීමේ ව්‍යාපෘතිය ප්‍රාණ ජනවාරි මස 17වන දින රිජ්වේ ආර්යා  ළමා  රෝහලේ දී සිදු විය. එහිදී විශේෂයෙන්ම ඇට මිදුලු බද්ධ කිරීමට අත්‍යාවශ්‍යම ඖෂධ වර්ග කිහිපයක් ඉතා  ඉක්මනින් රෝහලට  අවශ්‍යව ඇති මොහොතක ලැබී තිබූ මුල්‍ය ආධාර මඟින්  එම වටිනා සත්කාරයට දායක වීමට මොරටුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ ලියෝ සමාජයේ අපට හැකි විය.

            

Leap Phase 2

 “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”

LEAP Phase 2, The Leadership Camp took place at H/Deniya Pingama Kanishta Vidyalaya. It lasted for 2 days and involved 16 Leos along with approximately 60 school students. Teachers also joined us and assisted throughout including food and accommodation.

On the first day we divided the students into groups and engaged in various games designed to teach and enhance their leadership skills. At the end of the day, each group prepared and performed a drama followed by a competition to select the best performance. The evening concluded with a joyful bonfire where everyone sang and danced together.

The next morning started with an exciting workout to wake up the students and get them ready for the day. Then we had a fun treasure hunt where everyone worked together to solve puzzles and find hidden treasures. Later, all student groups participated in a cooking show. At the end of the two-day program we had a special ceremony to give awards to students who did great. The teachers and students were very happy and thankful. Everyone felt that the camp was really good and valuable. This marked the end of LEAP Phase 2 but the memories and lessons will stay with us for a long time.







Renovate '24: Repairing a bus stop

 

On 15th January 2024, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa launched the project “Renovate’24” to restore a dilapidated bus stop at Hingurupaththala Junction, Matara. This initiative, driven by our dedicated club members as volunteers, aimed to increase the community's quality of life.

The project involved not only painting the bus stop but also carrying out essential repairs. That impact was immediate and valuable. Our members have repaired the place Then, that bus stop provides shelter and uplifts the area's aesthetic appeal. This transformation shows our commitment and dedication to improving public spaces.

The significance of this project extends beyond the physical improvements. It demonstrates the power of collective action and volunteerism in creating positive change. We have shown that even small acts can significantly impact society by coming together.

The revitalised bus stop now stands as a symbol of hope and progress, reminding us of the importance of investing in our communities. Leo Club of University of Moratuwa is proud to have undertaken this project and we are committed to continuing our efforts to serve society.





Hearts Beat

 The project 'Hearts Beat’ was organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa targeting to make the society aware of Dialog star points. Also the aim of this project was to help construct a new facility in Lady Ridgeway Hospital. 

In the first two weeks of December, UoMLeos were connected with the Little Hearts fund which collaboratively works with Lady Ridgeway Hospital and Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe helped a lot to make this project a success. Members of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa visited tuition classes from around different cities of the country to make them aware about Dialog star points and to collect them. Most of the teachers supported us in making this project more successful. We covered nine districts and about 100,000 students from Galle, Gampaha, Matara, Jaffna, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kurunegala and Colombo.

And also we were able to reach up to more than 300 people in social groups. In addition, in the final week of December, we shared a small video clip on how to donate points to the ‘Little Hearts’ fund. With all of our efforts the project ‘Hearts Beat’ became a great success.
