Healthline

To bring health and wellness to the forefront, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa organized Project Healthline, a medical camp aimed at providing free health screenings and raising awareness about common community diseases. The event benefited undergraduates and staff members of the university and took place on October 28th at the NCSLBGF New Classroom on university premises. The main objective was to address the concern of limited access to regular health examinations which are essential for the early identification of diseases like obesity and hypertension. Additionally, the project seeks to fill the knowledge gap about common health problems including cancer and metabolic and cardiovascular disorders.

The event was supported by the Faculty of Medicine at University of Moratuwa whose undergraduates played a pivotal role in organizing and executing the event. Resources for the medical camp were also made available through collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine.

Blood pressure monitoring and BMI evaluations were the main focus of the medical camp which also included an HIV/AIDS and cancer awareness program. The event began with setting up designated areas for health checkups and a separate space for awareness presentations. Informational materials designed by medical students were displayed at the respective stations for HIV/AIDS and cancer awareness. Many Leos and prospects from Leo Club of University of Moratuwa supported the event assisting with coordination and ensuring its smooth operation.

Feedback from the community was greatly positive and many participants said they were grateful for the free health examinations and considered the awareness seminars eye-opening and educational. Interest in regular health checks significantly increased and the community was encouraged to participate in similar health camps.
