Serving hands with loving hearts

Every year the Leo Club of University of Moratuwa organise an event to serve elderly and disable people. This time we decided to organize this as a combined project with Lions club of Dehiwala North.

The date was 10th March 2013. It was a different day. Our leos, prospects and friends gathered in front of the university and we reached Victoria Home nearly at 8.00 a.m. by bus. There were 52 of us.

We were divided in to several groups and attached to wards. Then the matrons brought the disabled people out of the wards, and we started to clean cobwebs and sweep the floor.
After that we washed the floor while cleaning their ‘bed attached toilets’. It was not an easy task. The walls were also not clean and we washed those walls.

There were some people who cannot get up from their beds. So we were very careful not to make them uneasy when we were working.

Some of them looked at us curiously but with friendly eyes. Some others came near the ward using their wheel chairs to see how we were working. Some among them joked with us and told to clean their wards well.
