Aim zero incident

"An accident brings tears, Safety brings cheers."

Life is the most precious gift we have ever received. Therefore Safety should be a main priority of all of us as life is something that should be allowed to be lost easily.Aim zero incident is an successful attempt which was to confirm safety.

The Leo club of University of Moratuwa together with the Leo club of Christ Church Girls college, Baddegama organized this very important  project, called " Aim zero incident". The main aim of this project was to prevent accident.

Our country is currently experiencing a large Number of deaths due to drowning each year. Going to bath in inappropriate places, without knowing the nature of the water is the main reason for these accidents. Recognizing this problem, we thought to select a location where drowning accidents are common & erect awareness boards there.

As the first phase of the Aim zero incident project, we planned to erect a warning notice board near the Maha Oya in front of the Pinnawala zoo in Hiriwadunna as we found that place had been a reason for many deaths from a long while. The programme was held on 21st of December 2021.

We continued the project for a second phase & as the second phase we decided to choose a place where read accidents are common & erect awareness boards there.

Every year we lose hundreds of precious human lives due to road accidents in our country. Reckless driving is the main reason we noticed for that. We understood that if we can do something to bring back their attention, it is priceless.

After recognizing this problem we chose a place where many accidents have happened.

We erected a warning sign board near Anguruwatota Narthupana junction on the Horana- Mathugama road on  13th January 2022.

Aiming zero accidents we could successfully complete the project " Aim zero incident" by socializing the importance of preventing an accident before it happens.

NATURVERSE

Bees do have a smell, you know,

and if they don’t they should,

for their feet are dusted with spices

from a million flowers.

-Ray Bradbury

The keeping of bees is like the direction of the sunbeam. Humans have always had a special affection for honey bees. Even after thousands of years of interacting with bees, there are some we have yet to learn.

The Leo Club of the University of Moratuwa together with Leo Club of Matara Nilwala organised a project called "NATURVERSE", intending to protect apiculture and conserve bees. The project was conducted on  30th December from 2.00 p.m. onwards at Agriculture Extension Office - Wilpita. It included the events like  distributing necessary equipment, an awareness program, and a field visit

Join hands with us to learn the art of beekeeping.

Beyond Eye – 2

යාළු
with யாழ், “The pigeon post sent to the address of the fraternity” is a great project conducted by the Leo Club of University of Moratuwa along with the Leo Club of Rahula College, Matara and the Leo Club of Manipay Parish with the great intention of rejuvenating the hidden brotherhood in our hearts while creating a platform for the future generation of our motherland to enhance their skills in their second language; Sinhala or Tamil.

Beyond Eye 2 is a game night with lots of special events planned in concurrent with this project in order to strengthen the bond between the participants of යාළු with யாழ். It was held on last 29th December 2021 from 8.00 p.m. onwards. The night consisted of an interesting game item. Each participant was given a chance randomly to speak on a given topic in their second language and also they were given a specified word to replace another word while speaking. This filled the night with fun. As this project mainly targeted the students of grade 9 and 10 in both Sinhala and Tamil medium schools, it was an eminent chance for the participants to improve their speaking and presenting abilities in their second language. Also it was a great chance for them to break the ice among them.

With the active participation of the students the game night was more interesting. The most pleasing thing is several students were capable enough to present admirable speeches successfully, giving value to the effort and the motive of the organizing committee. Then the rules of the final event of යාළු with யாழ், the vocal and written competition which is scheduled to be held in the end of January were introduced. And the Beyond Eye - 2 game night came to its end after lasting for about two hours while spreading laughter and joy.

This fabulous night absolutely was able to give a valuable and memorable experience to the participants. Hope to meet you with exciting news of a mesmerizing and fascinating competition.
