Diriliya Jayamaga - Sarukala divimaga

''She is the strength of the family, spirit of the country, real architect of the society.Lighting up her life will lead to brightening future of the world.''

As a mother, as a sister, as a wife and as a responsible citizen, woman plays a major role in the society. If she is strong enough in her abilities and skills to fulfill the responsibilities properly, this society will become a much better place than today. Therefore we thought that improving the abilities of the woman is the best way to empower them. 

With this leading objective, “Diriliya jayamaga - sarukala divimaga” project was organized as a bag sewing workshop. Through this project we expected to give them a hand to start a new self-employment and introduce a solution to reduce the excessive use of polythene bags which has become an environmental hazard in these days.
                                                                                       

This project was conducted on 23^rd July 2017 at “Wasana” Sanasa society hall, Hapugala east with the participation of UOM Leos, prospects and about twenty women from that area. Mrs. Roshini Samarasinghe joined with us as the resource person. Finally, We were able to conclude our project “Diriliya jayamaga- Sarukala divimaga” as another remarkable step taken by Leo club of University of Moratuwa to empower the women while giving a better solution to huge environmental issue.  

Aashinsana

It’s the dream of each parent to spend their old days with their kids and grandchildren, once they got retired from their busy lives. But, today that wish has become just a dream to most of them though they had spent more than a half of their lives on their children.

At the beginning of the new chapter in our club, we wanted to get the blessings from the best, the oldest and the wisest that had experienced the world most. That’s why we, the UoM Leos stepped into the Thihagoda Elder’s Home, Matara on the days of 7th and 8^th of July together with the Leo club of Rahula College, Matara.

                                                                                                                                       

There we spent both days under their companion as by helping them to clean the elders home and from every other possible way we could. The second day was well spent with the Sil campaign, done together with those parents under our assistance.

Both days came out as a fruitful event where we were able to bring a little smile to their faces and be a little relief those hearts that hurt a lot.

   

FLY FOR A RAINBOW

~A guidance to reach the colors of attitude~

Rainbows with seven colours are not frequent, but once they are appeared in the clear sky everyone of us down on Earth appreciate the glamorous view of it.

If someone can become a rainbow with the colours of wisdom that everyone appreciate the person will be the luckiest of all. The happiness received by the person who became the guidance to an innocent fellow to fly for a rainbow will be immeasurable.

  


May 5th and 6th were not just two days for the UOM Leos. They got the opportunity to be that guidance to little fellows of MO/Ellekona K.V. and MO/Yakunnawa M.V. The students of grade 9, 10 and 11 were privileged to have an OL Seminar, motivation program and Leadership development program with the organization of UOM Leos. It ended with a hope in our hearts that they will find the wings to fly for a rainbow of wisdom.

For every single breath we take in, we owe to the trees in the surrounding. Whether living a hundred years or not as long as we live we need fresh air to breath. It is the reason that our ancestors protected the trees for us to survive. It is our responsibility to protect them, grow more of them and help the survival of future generations.

Under this main intention UOM Leos launched another step ahead. The day was Sinhala and Tamil New Year. We were all at homes celebrating, but we never stopped thinking of a new way to connect with the Leos all around the country.

In the auspicious time for starting good work we got together and planted a tree in our home gardens. Though we were not together as in other projects we have done the good deed together at the same time. Leos from many clubs around the country joined with us to launch  the project.

Beyond the reach

Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader; they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role; it’s always about the goal. That goal they set out will always be beyond the reach of a looser. The more you perform in life, the more you empowered with the so called leadership.



“Beyond the Reach”, the leadership, skills and professional development program organized by the Leo club of University of Moratuwa was a place for the patricipants to evoke the leader within them together with improving professionalism.

The program was held on 25th of March 2017. All those who were there was guided on the day with a CV writing workshop by PDP Lion Isuru Senadheera, Interview facing workshop by PDP Leo Nadeesha Palliyaguru, Workshop on Leadership by LEO Mahendra Amarasooriya of LEO Leadership Institute and skill development activities by District Orientation Committee Chairman, centennial challenge coordinator Leo Kasun Lokugamage.

All those who were there on the day experienced and created an opportunity to become a leader.
