FightOn

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women making early detection vital in saving lives. Recognizing this, Leo Club of Raththanapitiya and Leo Club of University of Moratuwa jointly organized “FightOn” which is a Breast Cancer Awareness Program & leaflet Distribution Campaign on February 6th, 2025 at Korathota Sri Somananda Vidyalaya, Kaduwela. The project aimed to educate mothers and students about breast cancer symptoms, self-examination techniques and the importance of early detection. The awareness session was carried out as an interactive awareness session with the help of MOH Kaduwela medical professionals. Mrs.H.A.S.P Rodrigo, public health nursing officer of MOH Kaduwela and DR. Niroshan Silva, medical officer of health were the resource persons for the session. Mrs. Rodrigo emphasized that the Korathota area records a high number of breast cancer cases underscoring the need for increased awareness. The event featured demonstrations on self-examinations, Q&A discussions and the distribution of educational leaflets. The project successfully reached about 70 beneficiaries. The project received positive feedback from participants reinforcing the importance of community-based health education. By raising awareness and encouraging proactive health measures, FightOn made a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer.
