Back2Better

Project Back2Better organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was initiated with the aim of bringing joy and hope to children in underprivileged communities. Through a donation drive, pre-loved items previously used but still in good condition were generously contributed by kind-hearted supporters.

On 17th August 2025, these items were distributed at Sangaraja Viharaya, Koralawella where the project team connected with children, shared moments of happiness and turned small acts of kindness into big smiles.

Back2Better reflects the spirit of service proving that together we can transform compassion into meaningful change.

Beyond Borders

Beyond Borders project held as a virtual session on 12th August 2025 was an inspiring international youth initiative organized in commemoration of International Youth Day. Organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in collaboration with partner Leo Clubs including Leo Club of New Tinsukia, Leo Club of Jorhat Heritage, Leo Club of Nagaon City, Leo Club of Doomdooma Tea City and Leo Club of Diphu Aspire, this joint effort aimed to empower young leaders and promote mental well-being.

The session was enriched by the presence of two distinguished speakers. Mr. Anderson Kriubaharan, a former software engineer, public speaker and content creator, delivered valuable insights on empowering the next generation, advancing innovation and inspiring active participation in today’s world. Leo Lion Ritwik Bhawsinghka, Multiple District President of Leo Multiple District 322, addressed the vital topics of youth mental health and key aspects of leadership encouraging participants to embrace resilience and responsibility.

The project created a safe and inclusive platform for meaningful discussions while also contributing to unity, cross-cultural exchange and global awareness. The impact was evident not only on participants but also on organizers who enhanced their skills in leadership, digital literacy and teamwork. The overwhelmingly positive feedback highlighted the project’s success. Ultimately, Beyond Borders stands as proof that youth collaboration can transcend boundaries to create lasting change.

අවදානමට පෙර - පළමු අදියරය

ස්වාභාවික ආපදා වැනි හදිසි අවස්ථාකදී පෙර සූදානමක් සහිතව ඒවාට මුහුණ දීම ඉතා වැදගත්ය. මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කරන “අවදානමට පෙර” ව්‍යාපෘතියේ පළමු අදියර තුළින් අප බලාපොරොත්තු වන්නේ ජනතාව තුළ එම “පෙර සූදානම” ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීමයි. පළමු අදියරය යටතේ තෝරගත් ප්‍රදේශවල ජනතාවට ආපදා අවස්ථාවකදී භාවිතයට අත්‍යාවශ්‍ය වන ප්‍රථමාධාර, මූලික ඖෂධ, විදුලි ලාම්පු ඇතුළු ද්‍රව්‍ය හා උපකරණ ඇතුළත් කට්ටල බෙදාදීම සිදුකරයි.

පළමු අදියරය යටතේ පළමු දිනය 2025 ජූලි මස 28 වන දින පෙරවරු 9.00 සිට පස්සර දබේවෙල ග්‍රාම නිලධාරී කාර්යාලයේදී පැවැත්විණි. දෙවන දිනය අගෝස්තු මස 14 වන දින ගාල්ල පියදිගම ග්‍රාම නිලධාරී කාර්යාලයේදී සාර්ථකව නිම කෙරුණි. එම ව්‍යාපෘති දිනයන් ජනතාවට ඵලදායී අයුරින් සිදුකිරීමට අදාළ ග්‍රාම නිලධාරී කාර්යාලයන්හි සියලුම නිලධාරීන්ගේ නොමඳ සහය හිමිවූ අතර ඔවුන්ට අපගේ ගෞරවාන්විත ස්තූතිය පුදකරමු.

මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය තවදුරටත් ඉදිරියට ගෙන යමින් තවත් ප්‍රදේශවල ජනතාවට සවියක් වීම අපගේ අරමුණයි.

AgentX Boot Camp

Leo Club of University of Moratuwa proudly concluded AgentX Boot Camp, a three-day virtual learning experience designed to introduce participants to the dynamic world of AI agents. Conducted in collaboration with our knowledge partner Zone24x7, this project aimed to empower students with practical knowledge and industry insights into the future of intelligent systems.

The program featured three engaging sessions. Session 1 led by Mr. Prasan Shanaka Sembapperuma Ratnayake, explored the fundamentals of AI and agent-based systems. Session 2 conducted by Ms. Ishani Udeshika, offered a deep dive into tools, memory structures and practical applications. Finally, Session 3 guided by Mr. Nisal Mihiranga, uncovered the intricacies of multi-agent systems and their potential to transform industries.

AgentX was more than a series of lectures, it was an interactive platform where participants actively engaged with experts, asked interesting questions and gained a hands-on understanding of AI’s possibilities. The bootcamp also encouraged collaborative learning with participants working on a mini-project to apply their newfound skills. This project showcased the Leo spirit of learning, innovation and service by connecting academic curiosity with real-world application. We extend our deepest gratitude to Zone24x7 for their invaluable partnership, to our respected speakers for sharing their expertise and to the organizing committee for their dedication in making this bootcamp a success.

With initiatives like AgentX, UoM Leos remain committed to providing the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to embrace emerging technologies and drive meaningful change in their communities.

Life in Balance Day 1

Leo Club of University of Moratuwa has initiated a community-based health research project "Life in Balance" focusing on Preventive Healthcare. The aim is to analyze the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and diabetes, one of the rapidly growing health problems in Sri Lanka.

The Health Screening and Data Collection Drive will be the first step in this initiative. The first screening and data collection took place on 29th July 2025 at the MOH Office, Walallawita, Kalutara. Community members were assessed for BMI, blood sugar levels and lifestyle factors. The results are expected to have valuable health implications and contribute to research.

In addition to screenings, Life in Balance also strives to increase awareness of healthy living habits. This includes promoting nutritious eating and encouraging regular physical activity. By educating people and prioritizing early detection, the project is taking a significant step toward a healthier community that is conscious of diabetes.

ජීවනාරුණෝදය

අභියෝග මධ්‍යයේ දිවි පෙවෙතක් ගත කරන පවුලකට රුකුළක් වීම උදෙසා බලාපොරොත්තුවේ අරුණළු රැගෙන යමින් මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කෙරූ ජීවනාරුණෝදය ව්‍යාපෘතිය ජූලි මස 27 වන දින සාර්ථකව අවසන් කරන ලදී

බටපොත කනංකේ ග්‍රාමයේ දිවි ගෙවන එම පවුලේ ගෘහ මූලික මහත්මයා ආබාධිත අයෙකු වූ අතර එම පවුලේ ජීවන ගමන ගෙන යාම උදෙසා ඔහු, ඔහුගේ බිරිඳ හා එක්ව බුලත් විට විකිණීම ඔවුන්ගේ අදායම් මාර්ගය බවට පත් කරගෙන ජීවත් විය. ඔවුන්ගේ මෙම ව්‍යාපාරයට ප්‍රධානම අත්වැලක් වූයේ ආබාධිත පුද්ගලයන් ගමන් ගන්නා රථයයි. නමුදු එම රථය අබලන් වීම හේතුවෙන් දෛනික ජීවනෝපාය ඇණහිට ජීවන ගමන ගෙන යාමට අපහසු තත්ත්වයක් උදාවී තිබුණි. 

අප විසින් බටපොත කනංකේ ග්‍රාමයට ගොස් එම ආබාධිත පුද්ගලයන් ගමන් ගන්නා රථය අලුත්වැඩියා කර නැවත ඔවුනට ලබා දුන් අතර එමගින් ඔවුනට යළිත් ජීවන ගමන ගෙන යාමට සවියක් එක් විය. සරණක් අවැසිව සිටි ඔවුන්ට සරණක් වෙමින් මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය සාර්ථක කරගැනීම උදෙසා නන් අයුරින් සහයෝගය දැක්වූ සැමටද අපගේ හෘදයාංගම ස්තුතිය පුදකර සිටිමු.

දීර්ඝායූ

ආදරණීය වැඩිහිටියන්ගේ ගත සිත සුවපත් කිරීම අරමුණින් මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලීයීය ලියෝ සමාජය විසින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලැබූ ‘දීර්ඝායූ’ සෞඛ්‍ය කඳවුර පසුගිය ජූලි මස 28 වන දින පෙරවරු 9.00 සිට පොල්ගස්ඕවිට තුසිත වැඩිහිටි නිවාසයේදී පැවැත්විණි.

මෙම වැඩිහිටි නිවාසයේ වැඩිහිටියන්ගේ මුඛ සෞඛ්‍ය රැකගැනීම උදෙසා අත්‍යවශ්‍ය කර තිබූ ‘දන්ත සෞඛ්‍ය සායනයක්’ පැවැත්වීම එම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ සුවිශේෂී අංගයක් විය. දන්ත වෛද්‍ය  වයි. එම්. එල්. අයි.  අෂානි මහත්මියගේ සහ බුද්ධික රුවන් මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් එම සායනය ඉතා සාර්ථකව අවසන් කෙරුණු අතර එම වෛද්‍යතුමිය ඇතුළු කාර්යය මණ්ඩලයට අපගේ කෘතඥතාව පළකරමු. 

එමෙන්ම වැඩිහිටින්ට අවශ්‍ය සෞඛ්‍යමය ද්‍රව්‍ය සපයමින් ඔවුන්ට සවියක් වන්නටද මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝවරුන්ට හැකිවිය. එම වැඩිහිටි නිවාසයේ ආදරණීය වැඩිහිටියන් උදෙසා, විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ශිෂ්‍ය ශිෂ්‍යයාවන් විසින් මෙවැනි වැඩසටහනක් පැවැත් වූ ප්‍රථම අවස්ථාව ‘දීර්ඝායූ’ සෞඛ්‍ය කඳවුර වීමද විශේෂත්වයකි. මනුසත් කමේ දෑත් දිගුකරමින් මෙම මහඟු සත්කාරයට සහයෝගය දැක්වූ සියලු දෙනාට අපගේ ස්තූතිය පුද කරමු.
