Sparking Hopes is a special project organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. The project aimed to promote energy conservation and was conducted at WP/GM Mandawala Maha Vidyalaya on 11th of February. Although the school had access to power, the halls lacked electricity due to inadequate wiring.
Initially we conducted a science education session at the school. Then we selected about 50 students who were interested in electrical work and provided a career guidance and awareness program led by Mr. Indika Kalubovila. This program provided a basic knowledge of wiring through practical sessions. Mr. Indika also joined with the students to wire the halls letting them to experience it to the fullest.
Furthermore, the club donated wiring equipment worth Rs. 200,000.00 to the school. We collected these items by approaching hardware shops who generously contributed when presented with our list. This project not only taught students valuable skills but also provided an essential electricity supply to the school making a significant impact.
