Green Justice

“Green Justice”, a virtual awareness program organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was successfully held on 30th of October 2025 from 7.30 PM onwards via Zoom. The primary objective of this initiative was to enhance public understanding of environmental laws and to emphasize their importance in protecting the natural world on which we all depend.

The program featured two distinguished speakers.

The first speaker, Dr. Shanika De Alwis, Photonic Engineer and Educator based in the  United Kingdom, shared valuable insights on relationship between scientific literacy and environmental responsibility. Her contribution encouraged participants to view environmental protection as a collective human obligation grounded in informed awareness.

The second speaker, Mr. Janaka Abeysekera, Attorney-at-Law (JPUM) and Environmental Consultant at Legal Planet, provided a comprehensive overview of key environmental regulations, their objectives and how legal frameworks help safeguard ecosystems. His thought-provoking explanations offered attendees a clearer understanding of how environmental laws guide communities toward sustainable practices.

Throughout the session, participants were reminded that justice should extend beyond humanity to include the planet itself. The program encouraged individuals to reflect on their personal roles in protecting natural resources and promoting environmental stewardship.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of “Green Justice” and to all participants whose engagement enriched the purpose and impact of the event.

Be a Warrior

Leo Club of University of Moratuwa successfully conducted “Be a Warrior”, a Taekwondo and Sports Boost Workshop on 3rd of November 2025 at the Karate Room of University of Moratuwa. The initiative was organized with the objective of promoting physical fitness, enhancing sporting skills and encouraging active participation among university students. This project served as a platform to introduce the fundamentals of Taekwondo while strengthening discipline, focus and personal development.

Throughout the session, participants engaged in a series of structured activities designed to improve strength, agility and coordination. The workshop included introductory Taekwondo techniques, fitness drills, and demonstrations aimed at building both skill and confidence. Experienced members guided the session, ensuring that each participant received hands-on exposure in a safe and supportive environment.

The project delivered several valuable benefits by promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among students. It encouraged participants to adopt regular fitness practices, raised awareness on the importance of self-discipline and contributed to overall well-being. We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants and supporters who contributed to the success of “Be a Warrior”.

Me and Nature Phase 02

“Me and Nature” is a comprehensive environmental project that continues to bring meaningful benefits to the planet. In Phase 02, the project carried forward its green mission, inspiring awareness and care for nature among young minds.

This phase reached three wonderful schools: Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Veyangoda, S. Mahinda Maha Vidyalaya, Alubomulla and Holy Cross College, Gampaha, where we conducted interactive awareness sessions, planted endemic species and guided students on how to nurture them responsibly.

Through these activities, students created safe and eco-friendly spaces in their school gardens helping the plants to grow and thrive. Beyond planting, the sessions emphasized environmental stewardship, sustainable habits and the importance of biodiversity in preserving our planet.

We organized this in collaboration with Planet Protectors, the project aimed at empowering young environmentalists, promoting long-term care for nature and building a sustainable impact within school communities.

Each visit was filled with smiles, learning and a shared hope for a greener tomorrow. Together, we planted not only trees but also dreams for a sustainable and flourishing future.
