Rest with Hope

"Rest With Hope" project organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the Title Partner Oracle Project Development Consultants, was launched on 25th of  October 2025 at the Avissawella District General Hospital. The primary aim of this initiative was to ease the discomfort of patients who are required to sit for long periods in overcrowded waiting areas with limited seating options. Many of these patients travel from rural areas, including elderly individuals and pregnant women.

During their visit to the hospital, members of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa identified the severe shortage of seating as a major challenge affecting patient comfort and well-being. In response, club took the responsibility of improving the situation by donating thirty five sturdy and comfortable chairs, giving patients a much-needed opportunity to rest while waiting for medical attention.

The impact was immediately visible once the chairs were placed in both the outpatient department and general waiting areas. Patients who previously had to endure long queues while standing were now able to sit comfortably. This simple addition significantly enhanced the overall atmosphere of the hospital, making it more welcoming and supportive in terms of patient care. Hospital staff expressed their gratitude, noting that this thoughtful contribution had made a remarkable difference in improving the quality of care provided to patients.

Smart Seniors

"Smart Seniors" project launched by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with Leo Club of Polgasowita aims to empower elderly citizens and bridge the generational digital divide. The project was designed to equip seniors with essential digital skills, enabling them to live more secure, connected and independent lives.

On September 27th, 2025 from 3.00 PM to 5.00 PM, the Digital Literacy Awareness Programme was held at Sri Bodhirathnaramaya Temple in Welikala. The event welcomed senior citizens from the neighborhood for a friendly and interactive session on practical, everyday skills. These ranged from making secure payments via mobile banking apps and keeping in touch with loved ones on WhatsApp, to searching for content on platforms like YouTube.

With the patient assistance of Leo members, the seniors quickly gained confidence in using devices and applications that were once unfamiliar to them. Many discovered how technology could simplify daily tasks and strengthen connections with family and friends. The smiles and looks of pride on their faces reflected not just new knowledge but a sense of renewed empowerment.

Through the Smart Seniors program, we created a supportive environment where the elders felt safe, valued and included. The program stands as a significant achievement in closing the generational gap, proving that growth and learning have no age limit.
