Verde Vogue '25

On 27th April 2025, Leo Club of University of Moratuwa hosted Verde Vogue '25, a vibrant fashion competition dedicated to promoting sustainable creativity. The event celebrated the art of upcycling, as participants unveiled fashion pieces crafted entirely from repurposed and recycled materials. It offered a bold and purposeful reimagining of style with meaning.

From fabric scraps to everyday discarded items, competitors transformed waste into striking fashion statements with each ensemble echoing a message of environmental responsibility. Verde Vogue '25 was more than just a runway show. It served as a powerful platform for conscious design sparking conversations around eco-friendly practices and showing how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. The event’s success reflected the unity, creativity and forward-thinking spirit of the Leo movement.

                                        

Holi Fest ‘25

Holi Fest ‘25 brightened the day with a burst of colour, laughter and togetherness as lively energy filled the grounds of Bodhiraja Vidyalaya, Piliyandala. Proudly organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with Leo Club of Piliyandala, the event welcomed individuals from all walks of life to celebrate unity and joy through the vibrant spirit of Holi. The festivities began at 3.00 p.m. and created a magical space where memories were made, friendships were strengthened and the cultural essence of the festival shone brightly.

The celebration was more than just an occasion of colour and fun and it also reflected the strong sense of community, youth leadership and shared happiness. We look forward to creating even more joyful moments in the years to come.    

    

Miracle Steps

Project Miracle Steps was held on the 29th of March 2025 at Independence Square in Colombo from 6.30 AM onwards. It was organized by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa together with Lions Club of Dehiwala North aiming at raising awareness about childhood cancer. With the leadership of Director Kawya Perera, Miracle Steps became more than just a run or walk.

With the amazing support of our participants, sponsors and partners, we were able to donate 100% of the money raised to Apeksha Hospital to help with the treatment and care of children with cancer. The donation was officially made on the 9th of April 2025.

The event had a huge turn out including university and school students, members of the Air Force, the general public and even people from other countries. It was a beautiful example of people coming together, no matter their age or background.

We are truly thankful to Lions Club of Dehiwala North for helping us. At the same time, Lions Club and Leo Club of Guwahati South also organized a similar event, showing their support from another part of the world and helping our movement grow even bigger. A big thank you to our kind sponsors, whose support helped make this event possible.

As we remember the success of Miracle Steps, let’s also look to the future. Together, we have shown that when people come together with love and purpose miracles can truly happen.

නැණතාල

2025 මාර්තු 29 සහ 30 දිනයන්හිදී මොරටුව විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජය සහ වික්‍රමසිංහපුර ලියෝ සමාජය එක්ව සංවිධානය කල "නැණතාල" ව්‍යාපෘතිය ඇල්ල යහලේවෙල විද්‍යාලයේදී සාර්ථක අන්දමින් පවත්වන ලදී. එකදු සංගීත උපකරණයක් හෝ පුස්තකාල පරිසරයක් කිසිදින පාසල් පරිසරය තුළ අත්විඳ නොතිබූ මෙම සිසුන් හට සංගීත උපකරණ ලබාදීම හා සුදුසු පුස්තකාල පද්ධතියක් ගොඩනැගීම තුලින් සිසුන්ගේ සංගීත දක්ෂතා වර්ධනය කිරීම හා සිසුන් අතර කියවීමේ සංස්කෘතියක් වර්ධනය කිරීම මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ අරමුණ විය. විවිධ පරිත්‍යාග ඔස්සේ පොත් 500කට වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයක් සහ විවිධ වාද්‍ය උපකරණ එක් රැස් කර යහලේවෙල විද්‍යාලයට පරිත්‍යාග කිරීමට ලියෝවරුන්ට මෙහිදී හැකියාව ලැබිනි.

පාසල් පුස්තකාලය පිරිසිදු කිරීම, අලුත්වැඩියාව කිරීම සහ අලංකරණය කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව නිර්මාණාත්මක පුස්තකාල පරිසරයක් ලියෝවරු එහි නිර්මාණය කළහ. එසේම පුස්තකාල කළමනාකරණ පද්ධතියක් ද ස්ථාපනය කර, එය දිගුකාලීනව පවත්වාගෙන යාමට පහසුකම් සලසමින් සිසුන්ට පහසු ලෙස පොත් කියවීම සඳහා බිම ඇතිරිලි හා කුෂන් ආදිය ද පරිත්‍යාග කළේය. මෙහිදී වාද්‍ය උපකරණ සිසුන්ට නිල වශයෙන් බාරදීමත් සිදු කරන ලදී.

"නැණ තාල" ව්‍යාපෘතිය තුළින් සිසුන් 146කට වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයකට අධ්‍යාපනය හා සංගීතය කෙරෙහි ඇති ඇල්ම වැඩිදියුණු කිරීමට හා ඔවුන්ට නිදහස් අධ්‍යාපනයේ නව මාවත් විවර කරලීමට මොරටුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයීය ලියෝ සමාජයේ හා වික්‍රමසිංහපුර ලියෝ සමාජයේ අප සමත් විය.

Nourish Nations

Project Nourish Nations is an international joint project collaboratively organized by Leo Club of G.N. Khalsa College, Leo Club Mohali Smiling, Leo Club of Guwahati South and Leo Club of University of Moratuwa. The project promotes compassion, unity and collective action across borders with the shared mission of providing nourishing meals to those in need. Leo Club of University of Moratuwa carried out its contribution to the project on the 29th of March 2025 at Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo. With the active participation of Leos and prospects, the club successfully distributed pre-packed meals to individuals in need offering support and kindness to the community. Nourish Nations is beyond merely a food distribution project. It exemplifies the Leo movement's values of service and empathy. The involvement of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa demonstrates the club's ongoing commitment to making a real difference in the lives of individuals experiencing food insecurity.

    

Phoenix

Phoenix Live in Concert was successfully held for the second time on the 26th of March this year. Beyond just a music show, it is a mission to help a mother in need. This time we came together to help Mahima Rajapaksha’s mother’s kidney operation, which costs 7 million rupees.

The show was held at Sumanadasa Courtyard. The event featured amazing performances by Yaka Crew Band, Wasthi, Sanka, Dilu Beats, Mihiran, Adithya, Chanuka Mora, Dinesh and Kaizer. Ramod with Cool Steps is the dancing crew that made the show more energetic with their amazing dance moves. Thisanka Gamage is the compere who did an amazing job with his compering skills.

The show was a great success thanks to the efforts of an amazing organizing committee and the support of all Leos.
