Shilpatharana

Shilpatharana is a project launched by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa to enhance the education of the students who are facing GCE O/L Examination within this year. After successfully completing ten phases of Shilpatharana seminar series the eleventh phase of Shilpatharana was held on 11th of January at Sri Rathnasara Vidyalay, Sandarawala, Galle.
This was not just an O/L seminar, but also an attitude developing program. It was started with a motivational program to encourage the students for their studies and achieve their goals. And during the seminar, we discussed the maths model paper with them.
As in previous phases, we got good comments from the students after the program. At the same time, we would like to be thankful for everyone who helped us to make this project successful.

Warna phase 2

“Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.”
Not everyone in this world gets a proper education. But everyone deserves to get a proper education. For that, they need a proper environment. As university students, we know the importance of free education and the effect of a better education environment in one’s life. So, we were trying to give them that privilege. We also have the responsibility to give today’s students something better than what we received.

We, UoM Leos with the aim of adding colours to the world of those little children, “Warna phase 2” came to the stage, as a collective effort of many. It was successfully held on 3rd of January at Kongaspitiya Vidyalaya, Siyabalanduwa.

Warna is one of the projects that was organized with the help of many volunteers, aiming the needy students from rural schools, who mostly do not receive many of the scholarships or helping hands from the government or other sectors. On that day we distributed necessary school items like exercise books, lunch boxes, school bags, shoes and water bottles. Not only gave gifts to them but also, we organized some interactive events focus to small smiley faces. Most importantly, a motivational program to raise their inspirational levels for a better future.

After successfully finishing this project, we saw their innocent faces full of smiles made us. As UoM Leos, we always try to make others happy by making their lives better.

Alarm for Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is a disease that causes high blood sugar. It occurs due to the high level of glucose in the blood. This has become a silent killer in the world, now has become a threat to Sri Lankan society too.
UoM Leos, as always, has taken an immense effort to identify and eradicate Type B diabetes from society as it has become the most common type of diabetes as of now. Due to insufficient insulin production from the pancreas, type B diabetes occurs.
Alarm for Diabetes was the project conducted by UoM Leos on 2nd January 2020 at Goda Canteen of the University of Moratuwa to raise awareness on type B diabetes. A questionnaire was given to the participants and according to the answers provided, the risk of type B diabetes getting infected was evaluated. The participants with risk were advised to take corrective actions to prevent the threat. The project ended with the happiness of securing the lives of our society as much as possible.

Awakening

“An assessment tool in support of creating children’s outdoor play environments with a sense of wonder”

It is obvious that the environment plays an important role in every child’s education. Aspiring this thought, we succeeded in yet another project.

The project “Awakening” was commenced by Leo Club of University of Moratuwa together with Leo Club of Kesbewa on the 08th of August at Sumudu Pre School Katubedda with the hope of giving these tiny tots a fresh start at the end of a long break. Leos and prospects were lucky enough to spend some quality time for little toddlers while creating colour arts and beautifying the landscape of the preschool. A strength-based classroom is a place where students with all sorts of labels come together as equals to form a new type of learning environment. It was such an amazing time spent at this preschool with teachers giving enormous support in every way possible. The project concluded becoming one of our cheeriest and most satisfying projects.
