“Drug use prevention is the best treatment and it COST LESS in LIVES and DOLLARS”
-Frank Kelly-

Addiction to drugs can erase happiness and peace from a life. But unfortunately, drug addiction is spreading like a disease among the school children today. An effort to suppress this tragedy is being launched as a drug prevention program, done aiming the schools island wide, under the organizing of the Leo Club of University of Moratuwa together with the National Dangerous Drug Control Board.

The inaugural ceremony of this program was successfully conducted, simultaneously, with the Service Project ‘Hadagesma’- Kellagama on 18th of November at Kallagama Navodya Vidyalaya.

This program will continue under different phases in the future too going with the intention of saving the younger generation from the illusion they are falling in. It’s a responsibility of ours, to save the future of our country.

Apeksha

Uncertainty is a common phenomenon of the world. But should we discourage ourselves due to this? We, the Leos of university of Moratuwa taught that anything beyond our control is not something to suffer, on 11th of November 2017 by holding a project day out with kids in cancer hospital.

This project was held on above mentioned day from 9 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. at play house in kids’ ward of Maharagama cancer hospital.

Classical music society of University of Moratuwa too contributed equally in this project with Leo club. Some fun activities and a musical program were held for little kids and as finalizing the program we donated some essential medicines for treatments to the hospital.

Though we can’t gain what we choose in every moment, it’s nothing wrong in expecting good to happen in our lives, as some times expectations can do miracles. That expectation was performed by UoM Leos as the “Apeksha”.

Sihinayata Piyapath

We, the UoM Leos correlate with the development of education sector of children in rural areas, with the intention of enhancing their mathematical and leadership skills. All what we desire is to show them how to dream big and give wings to those big dreams, from the name of education.

This project series “Sihinayata Piyapath” was conducted continuously to encourage students who are going to sit for the G.C.E. O/L examination this year.

The successful 8th phase of the project series was conducted on 3rd November at Thulhiriya Dharmasiri Senanayaka school, Kegalle. There, we discussed the mathematical problems targeting the G.C.E. Ordinary Level exam paper and taught them some easy ways to answer the questions while paying attention to each student as much as possible. This was carried out successfully throughout the day and we hope that our effort was a huge strength to them.

Damithu Saviya

As responsible citizens, developing and repairing religious places is one of our major responsibilities. Since, they are the places where people can develop their spiritual life, according to the Buddhism, It is a great merit.

Damithu saviya is another community development project organized by UOM Leos taking hands with Leo club of Dehiwala North.   It was held on 2nd November at Sudharmarama Viharaya, Hapugala. Pipeline system and the electricity system of the newly constructed lavatory of the temple was repaired with the help of Leos and prospects. Finally, we were able to conclude this project as another great effort taken by UOM Leos to develop religious places.
