The National Unity Kite Festival – 2014

A little child with a kite in his hand reminds me my childhood. I was very happy by making and
playing with a kite. Even still I would like to play with a kite, if I get the chance. Whenever I flew
a kite, I felt the freedom in my life.
The National Unity Kite Festival – 2014, organized by Ministry of National Languages and Social
Integration to mark the Social Integration Week in collaboration with United Nation volunteers
and kite Sri Lanka. As a set of volunteers who are looking for the development of leadership
skills along with the freedom of youth , LEOs were invited to help to organize this glorious
event. Leo Club of University of Moratuwa and Leo Club of Katuwawala were the luckiest clubs

who gained the chance to join with this national duty as organizing clubs.
The event was having two stages as workshops and kite festivals. The final workshop
of the series of workshops, was held on 13th July 2014 at open theatre of Viharamahadevi
park Colombo -7. It was a chance all of us to be back in our childhood again for a moment by
preparing attractive kites by following instruction given by representatives of Kite Sri Lanka.
The grand event took place on 19th July 2014 at Galle face premises, with the participation of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka President Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister Vasudewa Nanayakkara and more than two thousands of participants. As a whole, the massage trying to adduce through this event was, that we should be together with all the cultural group and should work freely together as a one nation of Sri Lanka, just like the kite flies every were in the sky though it have been made using plenty of colors.
