Talents of tassels-(For World children's day...)

Children’s day is celebrated worldwide in various days in honor of children. In most of the countries, it is celebrated in 1st October including Sri Lanka. It was established in order to prevent excessive child labour taken place in earlier days. Also, child protection has become a major issue in the past few decades, and this fact is also paid attention when establishing this day.

This day holds special attention of us Leos, for it is a day for us to turn our attention towards children. There are many children in Sri Lanka who live under minimum facilities and we were determined that their moral should be improved not only to this day, but for as long as it takes.

Our main target was to recognize children with special talents and encourage them to enhance their abilities by providing an appropriate surrounding. We wanted to appreciate their special skills and through that to develop their self confidence.
Most of the children suffer from lack of resources in their schools. We wanted to give them a chance to recognize themselves so these children won’t be left out without showing their skills. It also allows teachers to identify children beyond ordinary skills and encourage them to further developing their skills.

the program was held on 1st of October @ Gandara Model primary school from 8.00Am to 1.30Pm. it was highlighted that we should do our project to enhance the skills of school children while providing them a chance to entertain themselves.

Gandara Model primary school is a rural school once who really need a helping hands to reveal and develop their talents. we were conducted a competition of  Copy writing ,Arts ,Speaking skills and Recitation and measure their talents and appreciate them and awarded for their talents.

After the competition, we Leos gathered with children to entertain ourselves and we enjoyed each other’s company for a great deal. In the end, this project proved to be a valuable and a memorable experience to all of us for it brought us fun, knowledge and responsibility altogether.

Think Globally & Act Locally-Beach cleaning and awareness program

Leo club of University of Moratuwa organized a joint project with Leo club of Kesbawa and Leo club of Papiliyana Metro of beach cleaning and awareness program on post consumer plastic waste management with collaboration of central environmental authority on 25th of August at Mt-Lavinia beach.

It was done by distributing leaflets while cleaning the beach environment by collecting plastic and other waste materials.

We were distribute leaflets among the people who were at the beach during the time period of 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm.There were two sets of leaflets in Sinhala and English. These leaflets were consist of the methods of accruing the environmental pollution, the effects of those pollution and the methods to overcome them.

The location was very applicable to this project due to high urban pollution of this area. Mt.Lavinia Municipal area is the highest environment polluting area of Sri Lanka by various methods. So, environment pollution which occurred from plastic is mostly high in this area rather than other area. So, we tried to do some positive idea of post consumer plastic waste management by dividing leaflets.
